| March 31, 2008 -- Poetry Beat: Community Peace and Social Justice Poetry Night, Open Mic |
| Local poets and poetry lovers are invited to share an evening of original and published poetry at Black Cup Coffee in College Place on Monday (March 31) at 8 p.m.
This free event is part of the “March of Peace,” a series of peace-related activities during the month. The event follows the premiere screening of the documentary Inside Suriname, depicting the struggle of indigenous tribes to survive in the face of mine pollution and economic injustice. That screening is slated for 7 p.m. at the Donnie Rigby Stage, 4th and Davis streets in College Place. The crewmembers of Inside Suriname invite community members to share poetry and experiences inspired by community peace and social justice. Documentary crew members will also share poetry inspired by their work in Suriname with Maroons and Amerindians. Inside Suriname is a documentary production of Eclectic Reel, LLC in partnership with Suriname Indigenous Health Fund (sihf.org). Both organizations are committed to community directed research and intervention that empowers underserved communities. Black Cup Coffee is located at 615 South College Avenue in College Place. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Machelle Hartman at 509-529-3747 . |
